This tour is designed for the traveler who, in a short time, wishes to see the best China has to offer. You will start your tour in Shanghai, China’s vibrant commercial heart. Moving on to Guilin where you will cruise on the picturesque Li River to view the fantastic limestone mountains for which the area is renowned. Flying on to Xian you will see the Terracotta Warriors archaeological site and other significant attractions. You will finally spend the last five days in Beijing taking in the famous landmarks.

This morning walk along the famous Bund past the facades of the colonial buildings lining the Huangpu River and look across to the soaring TV tower and fantastic skyscrapers of the Pudong district on the opposite side. Following is a visit to the beautifully maintained Yu Garden, an outstanding example of a classical garden dating from the 16th century. Later you cruise across the Huangpu River to ascend the Shanghai World Financial Centre Observatory, one of the world’s tallest buildings, for an astonishing view over the whole city.  This evening you will be entertained by one of Shanghai’s famous acrobatic troupes. You will fly to Guilin.Your tour of this beautiful city will include a visit to magnificent Reed Flute Cave. Afterwards you will take the chairlift up Yaoshan Mountain to enjoy the spectacular limestone hills and peaks of this beautiful city. (B/L)


This morning you will embark upon an enchanting cruise down the Lijiang River to the charming river town ofYangshuo. The banks are lined with extraordinary peaks shaped like animals and mythological characters, bamboo forests and picturesque little fishing villages.  Tonight you will be entertained at a cultural performance. (B/L)


You will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Xian.

After the transfer to your hotel you will visit the Forest of Stele Museum with its most striking exhibit, a collection of some 2300 engraved stone tablets recording a variety of historical events and classical texts, the earliest dating from the Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD). Tonight enjoy a traditional Dumpling Banquet. (B/L/D)


This morning you will view the excavated Terracotta Warriors and Horses, buried over 2000 years ago to guard the tomb of China’s great unifier and first emperor Qinshihuang.  Later you walk walk along Xian’s massive City Wall, one of the best preserved in China,and this evening you will enjoy the lavish spectacle of the Tang Dynasty Dinner & Show. You will fly to Beijing where, as an introduction to this city, you will visit Tiananmen Square, look across the vast space to the Great Hall of the People. This evening you will enjoy a traditional Peking duck dinner (B/L/D)


Today you will visit the Forbidden City, as the former imperial palace is called, where the magnificent marble courtyards, huge halls, gilded temples and ornate pavilions, the residence of the emperors and their families, are now open to your wonderment.  This is followed by a rickshaw tour of Beijing’s old Hutong District, a fascinating maze of narrow alleys, with old houses and hidden courtyards, dating from Yuan Dynasty times (14th century), where people who live and work here welcome you into their homes. You will be taken north today to pace the ramparts of China’s famed Great Wall, originally constructed over 2000 years ago to keep northern invaders at bay.  (B/L)


This morning you will visit the Temple of Heaven, where the emperors, for the good of the empire, carried out the most important sacrifices and ceremonies of the year. Set in a huge park planted with conifers, the beautiful blue tiled buildings here represent the epitome of Ming architecture.

After lunch you will visit the Summer Palace, the famed pleasure garden of the Qing emperors, originally constructed by the emperor Qianlong to celebrate his mother’s 60th birthday in 1751 and later the favorite retreat of the dowager empress Cixi until her death in 1908. Languid willows and painted pavilions surround a scenic lake, across which are enchanting views to the pagoda-capped Jade Spring Hill and the mountains beyond. (B/L)
